Tuve un necio en mi vida. Me vio crecer fuera de sus estándares y siempre se quejaba. Se educó con el catolicismo de los chingadazos (ese que dice que hay un montón de cosas “del diablo”), pero a sus 75 años se armó de valor para decirme: “Pues está bien si ahora todos se pueden casar con quien quieran, ¿no?”.

El ser humano más empecinado que he conocido se fue sin escuchar “gracias” las veces suficientes y sin saber que, lejos de agradecerle que me haya enseñado a usar una bicicleta, agradezco su admirable esfuerzo por intentar entender a su joven descendencia.

Él no comulgaba con la tradicional manera de expresar el cariño (te quiero, te extraño, te traje tacos), pero decía ailoviu cuando condescendía. Le agradezco enseñarme que, aún con los necios, el amor es el lenguaje que puede ponernos de acuerdo.

Fortunately, I was able to use my last awarded therapy sessions for art therapy, an approach I had been curious about from the very beginning.

Art has taught me that all feelings are temporary, and acknowledging them is different from indulging in them. Art therapy was a great resource for me to reconnect with my own voice.

Pasos para una correcta despedida:

1. Se empieza agradeciendo a la contraparte. Este agradecimento debe de ser verbal o debe de quedar explícito de alguna manera y no se debe condicionar bajo ninguna circunstancia.

2. Se agradece después a uno mismo. Se agradece que la cabeza sigue pegada al cuerpo (se espera que ahora esté más firme que antes). Se agradece por las veces que uno la pasó bien y por lo aprendido.

3. Se piden disculpas por lo errores cometidos y, si acaso, por los omitidos también.

4. Ya después uno se disculpa por el llanto provocado, si acaso lo hubo.

5. NOTA: Se pueden decir algunas groserías, solo tómese en cuenta que estas no deben de ser adjetivas sino sustantivas. Las groserías son una de las maneras más prácticas y efectivas para liberarse de sentimientos negativos.

6. Se mencionan las cosas que salieron bien y hasta se pueden mencionar las cosas que se pudieron haber hecho mejor.

7. Se habla de aquello que no se habló pero que, por el bien de todxs, se tiene que decir.

8. Se pueden ofrecer algunas sugerencias, por supuesto. Se puede, incluso, hacer alguna aclaración (si se tiene la capacidad de mantener la calma en todo momento).

8. Mire siempre a los ojos cuando se esté siendo honesto. Si siente que esto puede intimidar a la contraparte, agregue microsegundos a sus parpadeos.

9. Recuerde no insistir. Manténgase atento a los "no" y manténgase humilde ante los "sí". La dignidad propia y la de la contraparte son claves para esto.

10. Si en algún momento duda, recuerde el número 5 y, si debe expresar algo, expréselo sólo a través del número 1.

11. Sobre todas las cosas, nunca se debe olvidar que nadie tiene ni conoce la razón y que no existen los culpables, sino los responsables.

I made this piece for my brother. He was telling me about these giant hamsters that suddenly appeared in a South American town. At first, people couldn't figure out why they were coming or where they were coming from. "Those animals have biological memory," my brother said, "and that town was their home long before humans made it theirs."
